OAKVILLE, ON – October 1, 2020 – The Family Enterprise Xchange (FEX) is proud to announce Burnbrae Farms as the 2020 FEX Central Ontario Family Enterprise of the Year Award Recipient. This honour was celebrated at a virtual event on September 30, 2020.
Burnbrae Farms is a sixth-generation family owned and operated Canadian company that has been producing eggs for over 75 years. With egg grading, breaking, and farming operations in five provinces across Canada, Burnbrae Farms has been privately owned and operated by the Hudson family since the original farm was purchased in Lyn, Ontario in 1891. They are dedicated to animal welfare and the promotion of sustainable agriculture systems that provide consumers with safe, affordable food and a good quality of life for the laying hens in our care. Today, Burnbrae Farms eggs and egg products can be found in local grocery stores, restaurants, food-service operations and homes across Canada. They’ve come a long way from their roots in the village of Lyn, but the employees of Burnbrae Farms and the Hudson family remain dedicated to offering high quality and nutritious food to communities nationwide.

About the Family Enterprise of the Year Award
The Family Enterprise of Year Award (FEYA) was established in 1986 to celebrate and promote the achievements of Canadian business families and the considerable contribution they make to the economic and social fabric of both their local communities and Canada as a whole. In fact, FEX recently issued a report, Family Enterprise Matters, which explores the impact of family-owned enterprises on the Canadian economic landscape, producing the most comprehensive picture of family enterprise in Canada to date. This report confirms that family enterprise matters; accounting for approximately 50 per cent of private sector GDP and nearly 7 million jobs across the country.
FEYA is unique among business awards in Canada, as it does not only focus on traditional business metrics. Instead, the selection committee also looks at how well the family enterprise integrates best practices that benefit the business, the family and their communities. Having demonstrated significant capabilities in these regards, FEYA recipients are examples of excellence and are integral to Canada’s economic future.
