PAG Workshop

BUILDING CAPACITY FOR DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS
Leader: Wendy Sage-Hayward

Post-symposium Workshop – PAG Members Only

Engaging in difficult conversations can be daunting, whether in your PAG, your family business or with members of your family. It is stressful and feels like an invisible minefield. The problem with difficult conversations is that too often we spend more time worrying about them than engaging in them. Consequently, we either 'blow it,' put the conversations off too long, or avoid them altogether.

In this interactive session, you will learn interpersonal communication techniques and strategies for moderation, facilitation and managing difficult conversations more strategically. These skills will easily transfer into your personal and professional life as you navigate through your family enterprise and get the most out of your PAG.

Objectives:

  • Understand what makes some conversations so challenging.
  • Identify your level of comfort/discomfort with confrontation or conflict.
  • Learn tools and strategies for keeping difficult conversations on track.
  • Examine three elements in difficult conversations including: the "What Happened" factor, the "Feelings" factor, and the "Identity” factor.
  • Leave with added confidence to engage in difficult conversations and conflict.
