PREDICTIVE SUCCESS CORPORATION

The FEX NextGen community has provided me the networking, idea-sharing and thought-provoking dialogue I had been searching for as a Gen 2 in my family business. Sharing this amazing resource with like-minded family business professionals is a passion of mine.

Aaron Berman is the Vice President, Business Operations at BERMANFALK Hospitality Group. As an executive team member, he currently oversees all operational departments of the company both in Canada and abroad which includes: Project Management, Business Operations, Design, Manufacturing, Human Resources and IT. BERMANFALK Hospitality Group is a design-driven manufacturer of casegoods and seating for the 3-5 star hotel market across North America; a highly recognized brand in their field. He is a second-generation member of his family business, working alongside his father (Gary) and brother (Daniel) who also occupy executive roles in the company.

Aaron’s passion for thought-leadership and business innovation is what led him to become a national and regional (BC) ambassador for FEX, with a specific focus on building the NextGen community. He currently resides in Langley, British Columbia with his wife Jennifer and children, Brock and Elizabeth.

Family is my number one priority. Being part of the FEX NextGen group is a helpful outlet for discussing the ideas and challenges that arise when working with your loved ones. Having this support helps me maintain my priorities in the work/life balance.

Though Cheryl worked at her family business, Reggin Industries throughout the summers in high school, after her post-secondary education she decided to venture out and explore her passion of events and hospitality. For over five years, Cheryl held Catering and Events Manager roles at hotels within the Calgary, Alberta area. She used this time outside her family business to gain not only experience, but knowledge in what kinds of management styles and people skills work well for her.

Four years ago, fate stepped in. Cheryl was looking for a new job and Reggin Industries had a vacancy that fit with Cheryl’s skills which allowed her to return to the family busienss. Reggin Industries and the Alle Family are currently working on their first transition from the first to second generation of owners. Cheryl and two of her brothers are excited to take on the responsibility, legacy, and ability to be a positive impact within the community not only for the Alle family but for all the Reggin Industries’ employees and their own families..

“Once you become part of the FEX NextGen community, you are constantly growing and sharing together with a wider network of family businesses. The greatest takeaway is having the opportunity to personally hear other FEX member’s stories and experiences in their family business. We get to learn from their mistakes, hindsight advice and gain best practices.

Derek is currently the Vice President of Operations at Welke Global Logistics, founded in 1985. Although he currently works for the family business, he took a different path in his journey to become an active third-generation member. After Derek received his post-secondary education he decided to venture out to gain some external experience in a different industry. He worked for six years at State Street in the state of Texas focusing on Institutional Banking. Here he rose to the role of Assistant Vice President, Performance and Analysis.

During his transition into the family business Derek took the role of Business Development Manager. In this position he was able to learn about the Canadian and US Customs Brokerage industry and how best his outside skills and learning journey could support the business and their customer’s needs. Derek is proud to be a leader within his family business and is looking forward to getting support from his FEX peers and FEAs as his family begins the challenging journey of succession ownership to the third-generation family members.

As the NextGen family business leaders, we need to wear our family-ness as a badge of pride. When you look at the results family business brings to our community and economy, we have lots to be proud of.

Dean Koeller is President of Calvert Home Mortgage Investment Corporation, a family-owned business for more than 45 years. Calvert Home Mortgage has financing $750 million in mortgages on over 6,500 properties in Alberta and Ontario market.

The family was honored as a Signature Family in 2019 by the Alberta Business Family Institute, and a finalist for the Calgary Family Enterprise of the Year (FEYA) with Family Enterprise Xchange in 2016. Dean was recognized with a Mortgage Investment Entity Industry Leadership Award by the Private Capital Market Association (PCMA) in 2017, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for community service in 2013, Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association President Award in 2012 and Top 40 under 40 in 2006 by Calgary Inc. Magazine.

“Donating my time to start our FEX NextGen Community was a no brainer. On a personal level, I knew exchanging with peers who are facing similar challenges was something I needed. It is vital to have a safe place where we can all come together. This has provided me with endless confidence, knowledge and a support system that will aid in my future as an entrepreneur and successor in my family business.”

Jennifer grew up working alongside her family business, Predictive Success Corporation. Growing up with a mission of Better Work, Better World, Jennifer makes that vision a reality for every one of her clients. She developed a strong curiosity for what makes exceptional people great at what they do. This craving for a deeper understanding of people lead her to study and apply management, leadership, self-awareness, emotional intelligence and most recently people analytics.

In her role as a Talent Optimization Specialist at Predictive Success Corporation, Jennifer supports many of Canada’s leading organizations, helping executives connect their talent strategy with the overarching business strategy. She brings her experience to the technology, retail, manufacturing, and professional services –helping organizations scale for growth leveraging psychometric data.
