FEA Program Schedule

Exam Schedule & Prep

Following completion of the FEA Program, FEA candidates wishing to sit the FEA exams must complete the Application for FEA Certification form and submit it a minimum of four weeks prior to the date of your written exam.

The FEA Certification exams consist of two components: written exam and oral assessment. Only candidates who pass the written examination can participate in the oral assessment, and therefore, a minimum three-week period is required between the two exams.

Written Exam

This is a 90-minute, open-book exam offered online. Candidates may request a paper version.

  • 25 multiple choice questions (50%) – 2 points each
  • 10 short answer questions (50%) – 5 points each

Candidates must attain a minimum 70% to pass the exam.

Oral Exam

This is an in-person assessment. Please allow 3 hours.

  • Group interview (90-120 minutes): with 3 other candidates, but assessed individually
  • One-on-one interview (15 minutes)

Candidates must attain a minimum 70% to pass the exam.

Students are strongly encouraged to spend as much time as possible using the study guide to review the concepts in each course of the Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) Program.

The study guide will be provided to each FEA candidate.

You may schedule exam dates once your Application for FEA Certification has been submitted. To schedule written and oral exams, email us.

The fee for the FEA Certification process is included in the FEA Program fee. The fee is subject to change by FEX.

In the event a candidate does not pass the written exam, they may re-sit the exam up to three (3) times at no extra charge. In the event a candidate does not pass the oral exam, they may re-sit the exam up to three (3) times at a cost of $300, $400 and $500 respectively.

Candidates scheduled for a written exam may request deferment for a future date as long as a three-week period remains between the written and oral exam. Candidates who wish to request a deferment for the oral assessment may do so no later than 30 days before the scheduled test date. A deferment is possible only if space is available and is at the discretion of FEX. All oral deferment requests must be made in writing to FEX.
